International Project Management Expert – Climate Change Adaptation and Nature-based Solutions

Position based in Nouméa, New Caledonia

ONF International is recruiting an International Project Management Expert – Climate Change Adaptation and Nature-based Solutions to join the Kiwa Initiative Secretariat team.

About ONF International
As the international subsidiary of the French National Forest Office (ONF), ONF International has been providing expertise in sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, and climate action for nearly 30 years. Operating in more than 50 countries, the organization supports its partners in designing and implementing high-impact environmental and territorial projects.

The Project
The Kiwa Initiative is a regional programme funded by Australia, Canada, France, New Zealand, and the European Union. Managed by the French Development Agency (AFD), it supports Pacific Island countries and territories in adapting to the impacts of climate change through Nature-based Solutions (NbS).

Within this framework, ONF International hosts the Kiwa Initiative Secretariat, based in Nouméa.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for, among other duties:

  • Providing technical and administrative oversight of regional climate change adaptation projects.
  • Supporting the monitoring of local projects and capacity-building activities under the Kiwa Initiative.
  • Assisting in the monitoring of environmental and social commitments across projects.
  • Contributing to the monitoring, evaluation, and promotion of the Initiative’s results.
  • Preparing Terms of Reference (ToRs), supervising technical studies, and drafting reports in English.
  • Contributing to communication materials and representing the Secretariat with institutional partners.

Candidate Profile
We are looking for a professional with:

  • A Master’s degree or PhD in environmental sciences, climate change, international development, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience managing international projects.
  • Excellent command of English and a good command of French.
  • Experience in climate change adaptation, ecosystem management, or Nature-based Solutions.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and coordination skills in multicultural environments.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
