National Forests Office
ONF International is a subsidiary with a single shareholder: the National Forests Office (ONF). Established in 1964, the ONF manages nearly 11 million hectares of French public forests owned by the State and local authorities, both in mainland France and overseas territories.
The ONF is responsible for the maintenance, development and renewal of public forests and associated natural areas. It also plays a key role in the management of natural risks: coastal protection, restoration of mountainous areas, wildfire prevention, and more. Finally, the ONF supports and assists local authorities seeking to enhance the value of their forest and natural areas.
In the context of its missions around the world, ONF International benefits from the institutional, scientific and technical support of the ONF, with the objective of transferring know-how and making a strong contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals pursued by regional, national and international public decision-makers.
The ONF is one of the five largest managers of tropical forests worldwide.
With 6.5 million hectares of tropical forests under management, the ONF ranks among the five largest tropical forest managers in the world. It is also one of the few organizations with expertise across all forest types, including boreal forests. We mobilize this expertise whenever needed for your projects.
