Context

Togo faces intense pressure on its forests, making it essential to implement modern tools to monitor and supervise REDD+ initiatives.

In this context, the country is developing a national REDD+ registry, an electronic platform designed to manage all project-related data in a transparent, reliable and efficient manner. This registry also serves as a public directory, centralising information on the registration, approval, validation, monitoring and certification of REDD+ projects in order to ensure data traceability and accuracy.

Activities carried out

  • Development of the approval procedure for REDD+ projects and initiatives in Togo, to ensure their compliance and traceability.
  • Drafting of the design documents for the national REDD+ registry, defining its architecture, functionalities and management procedures.
  • Development of the national REDD+ registry web application, accessible via www.regiredd.tg, to centralise and monitor all projects.
  • Production of a user guide for the registry, facilitating the adoption of the tool by national stakeholders.
  • Design of technical documents for the Safeguards Information System (SIS), covering its methodological and operational framework.
  • Creation of the SIS website, dedicated to monitoring social and environmental safeguards.
  • Drafting of a user guide for the SIS, intended to assist institutions in using the system.

Project details

The project involves setting up a comprehensive system for monitoring all REDD+ projects implemented in Togo. It aims to verify the credibility of initiatives and the integrity of their promoters in order to ensure the transparency and reliability of the national process.

Particular attention is paid to avoiding the overlapping of projects in the same areas, in order to prevent any double counting of carbon credits. The system also makes it possible to record expected and actual emission reductions, as well as to monitor incoming funding related to REDD+ projects.

The system ensures compliance with the country’s social and environmental standards and ensures that projects are consistent with the national REDD+ implementation framework. All work carried out is documented in a mission report detailing each stage of the process.

The main phases of the project

1

Design and development of the national REDD+ registry

2

Development of a standardised approval procedure

3

Creation and launch of the Backup Information System (SIS)

4

Production of user guides and technical documents

5

Strengthening the national digital infrastructure

Expected results

The project has provided Togo with a fully operational national REDD+ registry, centralising all projects and ensuring transparent data management. A clear and standardised approval procedure has been developed, strengthening the credibility and consistency of REDD+ initiatives in the country.

The Safeguards Information System (SIS) has been designed and launched, enabling monitoring of compliance with social and environmental commitments. National teams now have user guides and technical documents to facilitate the adoption and sustainable use of the tools.

Thanks to these measures, Togo now benefits from a reliable digital infrastructure capable of avoiding double counting of carbon, tracking funding, and ensuring project compliance with the national REDD+ framework.
