Context

As part of the development of two REDD+ projects in Central Africa, our team was asked to provide comprehensive technical assistance in the preparation of their Project Design Documents (PDDs).

This mission involves the application of the VCS methodology dedicated to activities that reduce emissions from unplanned deforestation, as well as ongoing support throughout the certification process.

Our intervention aims to guarantee the technical quality of the PDDs, compliance with international standards and the robustness of the key elements necessary for the validation of both projects.

Activities carried out

Our team provides comprehensive support for the climate methodology requirements necessary for the design and certification of the two REDD+ projects. Activities include:

  • Full application of the VCS methodology for projects to reduce emissions from unplanned deforestation.
  • The construction of the baseline scenario, analysis of the agents and causes of deforestation, and support for the collection of the required data.
  • Demonstration of additionality and verification of regulatory compliance.
  • Defining quantification parameters, including stratification, sampling strategy, and implementation of the forest inventory protocol (conceptual and operational).
  • Preparing data collection procedures and tools, including technical specifications for field inventories.
  • Quantifying emission reductions, including leak analysis and uncertainty assessment.
  • Preparation of the monitoring plan, parameters to be measured, and QA/QC procedures.
  • Support for the validation process, including document preparation, responses to clarifications, and support during the audit.

Project details

Our team supports the technical design of both REDD+ projects by ensuring that all methodological requirements for certification are met. This includes analysing deforestation dynamics, constructing the baseline scenario and defining the parameters for quantifying emissions. We are also developing forest inventory protocols, data collection tools and a monitoring plan, while ensuring compliance with VCS and CCB standards. Finally, we are supporting project developers throughout the validation process, right up to discussions with the auditor.
