Moldovan delegation – Adapting forests to climate change
Publiée le 13 November 2023
As part of the Rural Resilience Project, ONF International welcomed a delegation from Moldova last week. This meeting provided an opportunity to exchange with the teams of the French National Forest Office (ONF) on the challenges related to forest adaptation to climate change, a topic of particular interest to Moldovan forest managers.
Discussions focused on sustainable forest management strategies, species selection, forest regeneration, and the integration of climate change impacts into long-term planning.
During field visits, the delegation toured the Bauchery et Fils nursery, located near Chambord. This visit offered concrete insights into the challenges associated with oak regeneration, the management of genetic resources for this species, and the solutions implemented to strengthen forest resilience in the face of climate change.
As part of the same project, ONF International is taking part this week, from 13 to 17 November, in a mission to Moldova. This mission includes an audit of forestry companies to assess their capacity to implement the country’s national resilience plan.
The plan aims to reforest and rehabilitate 150,000 hectares of forest over the next decade, thereby strengthening the resilience of Moldovan forest ecosystems and supporting the sustainable development of the forestry sector.
