In 1997 (at the time of the Kyoto Protocol) ONF and Peugeot joined together in the implementation of a vast biological carbon sink in Mato Grosso (Brazil), at the cutting edge of Amazonian deforestation. This step led to the growth of ONFI in the theme of forestry and the fight against climate change.

Today ONFI intervenes in more than 20 CDM, MOC or voluntary projects, advising companies in their steps towards offsetting, proposing of new methodologies or supporting countries in international negotiations.

These missions go beyond the framework of simple afforestation/reforestation projects and also have bearings on bio-energy, transport, agriculture or avoided deforestation.

The strength of ONFI is to be able to make the permanent link between political, institutional, market and financial challenges and the reality in the field and during project implementation. This versatility and strong expertise has resulted in an original know-how which should convince you in your green investments, sponsorship of projects or offsetting activities.

For example we are actively involved in :

• Facilitating the climate negotiation process in the Congo Basin and Latin America
• Establishing avoided deforstation projects in Indonesia and Colombia
• Supporting industrialists in the energy sector in their carbon balance
• Participating in the definition of the REDD strategy in the Democratic Republic of Congo
• Training young forestry engineers in the theme of Carbon
• The realisation of the evaluation of biomass within the framework of greenhouse gas   inventories both in France and oversees.
